International Theatre Festival of Kerala

The 4th International Theatre Festival of Kerala is scheduled for February 2012 in Thrissur, Kerala. 'Meet the masters' - will feature plays written by or inspired by the writings of celebrated playwrights from across the world will be showcased during the week long Festival of theatre .Shakespeare, Ibsen, Strindberg, Goethe, Bernard Shaw, Becket, Brecht, Kalidasa, Bhasa, Rabindranath Tagore, Anton Chekov, Tennessee Williams, Arthur Miller,  Molière, Harold Pinter etc. Kerala sangeeth Nataka Akademi's new chairman Mr. Soorya Krishnamoorthy will be the festival director.

Power Boat Rally held in Kochi

 The Southern Naval Command and  the Offshore Sailing Club (OSC) will be organised by Power Boat Rally held in February 5. The event, an initiative by the Yachting Association of India , is a challenging water sport almost reminds us of a car rally. The rally, which stretches over a distance of more than 46 km through the scenic backwaters, will have routes arranged close to the Marine Drive, Fort Kochi and other areas, where people will get to watch the rally.The event will be held in two different categories of boats, that is below 100 HP and above 100 HP.

Tourism panel holds first meet to improve Tourism Industry

Facilities for tourist visa on arrival at Goa, Bangalore, Kochi and Hyderabad over the next year, upgraded road connectivity to all major tourist circuits.Eco tourism and reaching out to schools to promote tourism related vocational schools were amongst the decisions taken by an inter-ministerial coordination committee.The committe headed by Principal Secretary to the PM Pulok Chatterjee and  the  on board the ministries of Home Affairs,Culture, Rural Development and others . The committee will work towards removal of all perceived roadblocks faced by the tourism industry .

India's first Startup Village at Kochi

The country's first Public Private Partnership telecom business incubator "Startup Village" will be at Kerala Industrial Infrastructure Development  Corporation part in Kalamassery. Startup Village will focus primarily on student start ups from college campuses ,educational institutions and would be modelled on Technology Incubators in the Silicon Valley,United States.The first phase of the Startup Village is expected to be inaugurated by February  2012 and 1st batch will be on April.

Demand of tourism is very high in Kochi

The Kochi District Tourism Promotion Council (DTPC) is all set to introduce beach buggies at Puthuvypeen beach to improve beach’s tourism potential. The beach buggies, which are four-wheeled motorcycles for sand rides, are already operating at the Cherai beach and will be shifted to the Puthuvypeen beach. The buggies will be charged according to the usage time.The project in Cherai was the first of its kind in Kerala. Demand for adventure tourism is very high in our state and DTPC is planning more such tourism projects in the district annouced by  T N Jayashankar, Secretary, DTPC.

The State Government will spend Rs 15 crore for developing more facilities at Fort Kochi, Tourism Minister A P Anil Kumar annouced and talk about launching the tourism photography website ‘keralain360.com’ . The government will commence its work by January. The state is far behind Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka and Gujarat in marketing tourism globally. The government has included eight more tourist spots under the responsible tourism programme. It is all set to launch the KTDC pilgrim tourism package covering various centres like Bharananganam, Malayatoor, Guruvayur and Kadampuzha.

The major multiplex chains for film buffs are coming to Kochi and opening around 20 new movie houses in Kochi ,this be good for Movie entertainment .Bigger multiplexes chains such as PVR, Inox movies and Cinepolis are opening their units in the shopping complexes that are under construction in the city.Central Square mall, being built on the M G Road, will accommodate 11 screens and Lulu mall at Edappally will house seven movie houses with international standards.Essel group owned Fun Cinemas, owned by the Essel group, has also plans to open multiplexes in Kochi.
